Job Title: Junior UNIX Engineer
Location: NYC
Duration: Full-time
Rate: $60-100k + bonus
Must be a US Permanent resident.
Job description:
· Client is seeking a Junior UNIX Engineer who will be responsible for all aspects of UNIX and storage infrastructure.
· The responsibilities of the position include full lifecycle management of all UNIX and storage systems and services, including specification, building/installing, tuning, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities will include the following:
· Full lifecycle management of all unix-based systems and services including trading and market data systems, locally-developed and third party application servers and services, database systems, monitoring/trending services, job scheduling systems, and web/dns/backup/dhcp services
· Management of centralized NAS/SAN storage infrastructure
· Working with other engineering and development groups to determine support requirements for new and existing services
· Improving/refining existing systems and storage technologies and processes
Candidate profile:
The ideal candidate will have knowledge of and experience with the following:
· 4 year degree in computer science (or related field) from a top university
· 1-3 years of relevant work experience
· A strong understanding unix/linux operating system fundamentals, concepts, and practices
· Demonstrated ability and experience with at least one programming/scripting language (perl, shell, c, etc.)
· Exposure to/knowledge of storage concepts such as SAN/NAS, RAID, network filesystems
· A strong understanding of network fundamentals
· Outstanding troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills
· A careful, responsible approach to problem-identification and solving
· The ability and desire to learn a wide range of technologies
· The ability to work well in both individual and team capacities
